Jambot's improvise music in real time

Jambot is a robotic musical accompanist that can listen to music and then improvise musiclal rhythms and melodies.

It is common for a band or solo musician to have a computer-based backing track or use looping pedals, but these kinds of technology are not very flexible or responsive to what's happening on stage,' said Mr Toby Gifford, PhD researcher fromQueensland University of Technology (QUT) Faculty of Creative Industries (pictured right).

It is a not a robot in the form of shiny metal and flashing lights, but a piece of software that could play along to a soloist, providing a backing track, or improvising a conga drum solo over recorded music played by a DJ, for example.
